Twin elevated corridor works gather pace in Secunderabad Cantonment

Hyderabad: The works of the elevated corridors on two different stretches –State Highway-1 and National Highway-44 — in Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB), taken up to address the traffic issues and improve the transport infrastructure in these areas, have gathered pace.
Officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) told ‘Telangana Today’ that the intensive pillar construction on the initial stretch starting from Paradise Circle/Balamrai Junction has progressed at a steady pace. “Of the planned 20 structural pillars designed to anchor the corridor up to the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue behind Begumpet Airport, most are structurally complete,” an official said.
Simultaneously, the casting of massive precast concrete segments (girders) is advancing at designated yards, ready to be launched onto the completed pier caps. The HMDA is building an elevated corridor at a length of 5.4 km from Paradise Circle to Dairy Farm Road on NH-44.
The civil works at Paradise Circle have been completed after utility shifting, extensive road widening, and construction of peripheral compound walls. “The brisk execution of the pillars marks the completion of the most disruptive phase of surface-level construction at one of Secunderabad’s busiest traffic intersections,” a senior HMDA engineer said.
While civil works are forging ahead above ground, HMDA authorities are focusing on securing final clearances from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the subsequent underground tunnel segment planned beneath the Begumpet Airport runway.
Meanwhile, officials said the work on the proposed elevated corridor between Gymkhana Grounds and Shamirpet ORR on State Highway-1, Rajiv Rahadari, has accelerated. HMDA has begun property demolition and earth excavation at sites without disputes.
At Gymkhana Grounds, the peripheral compound wall has been completed. The HMDA also completed peripheral walls at the defence establishments on this stretch after clearance was received from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), said the HMDA official.
