Hyderabad: Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil inspected the Jeedimetla Smart Grid pilot project at Apurupa Colony in Shapur Nagar on Monday, October 26, to assess the functioning of smart meters and the automation system.

During his visit, Patil interacted with consumers to understand their experience with smart meters, the billing process and the benefits of the new system.

He said the objective of installing smart meters was not to increase revenue but to ensure transparent billing and improve the quality of electricity services. The meters would help consumers monitor their daily power consumption, enabling them to understand usage patterns and take steps to conserve electricity.

The smart grid automation system would help officials identify power supply interruptions more quickly and restore supply in a timely manner, improving service reliability, he said.

To further improve consumer convenience, TGSPDCL plans to introduce a dedicated mobile application in November 2026. The application will provide details of daily electricity consumption, estimated bills and past consumption records, allowing consumers to access the information on their mobile phones.

The initiative is aimed at improving transparency in electricity billing, enabling consumers to manage their power consumption more effectively and strengthening the distribution network through technology.
