Indians travelling to UAE urged to secure medical insurance

Abu Dhabi: The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai have urged Indian nationals travelling to or residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to ensure they have adequate medical insurance to cover healthcare expenses and emergencies.

In an advisory issued on Tuesday, October 27, the Indian missions said they had been receiving cases involving Indian nationals facing unexpected illnesses or medical emergencies that resulted in substantial medical bills.

The advisory stated that these expenses were sometimes “beyond the capacity of the patient or their family members to bear”, highlighting the financial burden of inadequate insurance coverage.

Indian nationals travelling to the UAE for tourism or visits have been advised to obtain appropriate insurance before departure. The policy should include cashless treatment facilities and cover the cost of medical repatriation to India in the event of an unforeseen emergency.

The missions also advised Indians residing in the UAE on employment visas, along with their dependants, to verify that their existing insurance policies adequately cover medical expenses in the country and repatriation to India.
