Hyderabad: As part of the ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) and the Silver Jubilee celebrations of its School of Management Studies, the campus hosted a Distinguished Lecture Series featuring Prof. B S Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, who delivered a talk on the theme ‘Building a Developed India: Role of Education’.

Emphasising the importance of national development, Prof. Murty said that true progress went beyond self-reliance. “We have to make ‘Make in India’ products—not just to be self-reliant, but to supply globally so we may call India a developed nation,” he asserted.

He challenged the youth to take the country’s destiny into their hands over the next 20 years, urging accelerated development in science and technology. Citing examples from IIT Hyderabad, he said the institution had banned single-use plastics and transformed barren lands into lush green spaces, demonstrating how young minds could drive significant change.

“Only Indian-born individuals care for India the most, and our youth should be fearless in their pursuits,” he said.
