A lift taken out of necessity ends in rape attempt in Telangana

Hyderabad: A 28-year-old Muslim man was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape and assault a tribal woman in Rajanna Sircilla’s Yellareddypet area.
According to the police, Syed Zubair had been stalking and forcing the victim to marry her ever since she came to visit her family for Dussehra holidays.
“Zubair offered her a lift to her home while she was standing at the bus stop. She accepted it as it was getting late and the road connectivity to her village is bad,” the police told Siasat.com.
After that, the accused started stalking and harassing her to get married to him. Zubair has been married before: once to a minor girl and another to a 20-year-old woman. He does not live with either of them, the police said.
On Tuesday, October 27, Zubair entered the tribal woman’s house when she was alone and attempted to force himself on her. Terrified, she raised an alarm, alerting her neighbours, who tried to catch him, but he managed to escape.
BJP tries to fan communal flames; police dismiss claims
He was caught by local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers near the bus stand and subsequently arrested.
A video has emerged showing Zubair surrounded by BJP workers who accused him of targeting “only Hindu women.”
One of them alleged that Hindu women face “grave danger from Muslim young men.”
“They are exploiting Hindu girls, riding around with them on big bikes and playing with their lives. The Hindu community will under no circumstances tolerate or forgive such unscrupulous individuals. Protecting Hindu girls is the responsibility and tradition of the Hindu community,” said the worker.

Siasat.com spoke to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer for Sircilla in Rajanna Sircilla District, K Nagendra Chary, who dismissed the claims. He said Zubair has a history of harassing women, but there is no communal angle to it.
“The SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to attempted rape, assault and trespassing have been invoked in the case,” the officer informed.
Zubair faces six cases, including a 2021 kidnapping case involving a minor girl, registered within the Karimnagar Commissionerate limits, as well as rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case.
He has been sent to judicial remand.
