Katrina Kaif breaks silence on post-pregnancy weight trolling

New Delhi: Trolled for her weight gain following her first public outing after the birth of her son, an unconcerned Katrina Kaif says she won’t let the “ever-changing winds of opinions” affect this lovely part of her life.

The “Namaste London” star, who is married to actor Vicky Kaushal and has a one-year-old son Vihaan, stepped out for almost the first time during a Ganesh Chaturthi event at the Mukesh Ambani household in September. Photographs and videos of the smiling couple were circulated widely and Katrina became the instant object of attention for putting on weight.

“I think most people are aware of what a woman’s body goes through after giving birth. And if they still choose to view that body through a harsh lens, it’s a personal choice. It can’t be blamed on a lack of information, because there is so much information out there. I just want to focus on this lovely part of my life and where I’m headed,” Katrina said in an interview to Vogue India.

A Pakistani RJ even apologised to the 43-year-old, counted as among the fittest stars in Bollywood.

“We live in a world that wants to blow us around in the ever-changing winds of opinions,” Katrina said in one of her first comments since the controversy.

The discourse, with many social media users making personal comments and saying she had let herself go after the birth of her child, rang familiar. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, mother to 14-year-old Aaradhya, has long faced the same scrutiny with even her latest red carpet appearance at the Cannes film festival this year becoming fodder for gossip mills.

There has been a push back from within the industry with many backing Aishwarya and Katrina and calling out those who want actors to conform to unrealistic beauty standards. Madhuri Dixit, Salman Khan, Mrunal Thakur and Parineeti Chopra, many actors have criticised the focus on actors’ bodies.

Katrina, in her Vogue India interview, scoffed at the idea of bouncing back to a perfect body size.

“Bounce back? From where?”

“I have taken a step ahead to something that was a deep desire in my heart, so why would I want to go back? The first few days after I gave birth, it was an indescribable feeling to see Vihaan’s face and know that four years of a journey for me and Vicky had led to this. I am very aware of my fitness journey and where my body feels at its most energetic. I will reach there at my own pace.”
