Houthis claim missile strike on Aramco’s Ras Tanura oil refinery

Sanaa: Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Tuesday, October 27, claimed a ballistic missile strike on Saudi Aramco’s Ras Tanura oil refinery, alleging that the attack caused large fires at the facility.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced the attack in a post on X, saying Yemen’s armed forces had struck the facility in the Kingdom’s Eastern Province with a ballistic missile.

Bloomberg News reported that a fire near the Ras Tanura terminal had been contained, citing a person familiar with the matter.
Saudi authorities said they had intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched towards Riyadh. According to AFP and Reuters, explosions were heard in the capital, and civil defence officials briefly issued an air raid alert.
Ras Tanura refinery and Saudi oil exports
Located on the Gulf coast, Ras Tanura is a major part of Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure. Its refinery has a processing capacity of approximately 550,000 barrels per day, while the adjoining terminal serves as a key export hub for Saudi crude oil.
The reported attack has raised concerns over the security of the Kingdom’s oil export infrastructure, particularly as Yanbu, another major export hub on the Red Sea, provides an alternative route for shipments.
The Ras Tanura facility was temporarily shut during the early months of the Iran war as a precautionary measure.
Houthis claim attacks on Saudi military sites
The Houthis also claimed to have targeted two military transport aircraft at Najran Airport and a military airbase in Khamis Mushait. Saudi authorities had not immediately confirmed these claims.
Separately, the group said it had repelled an advance by Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a strategic maritime passage connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
The reported developments come amid escalating hostilities involving the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, heightening concerns over the security of regional military facilities, energy supplies and vital shipping routes.
