Crocodile from Manjeera strays into Medak paddy field, rescued

Medak: A crocodile turned up in a paddy field near Enikepally village in Medak district’s Papannapet mandal, frightening farmers who were getting ready to harvest. A rescue team later captured it and moved it to a safe place, forest officials said.

A farmer spotted the reptile on Wednesday, October 28, and informed the Forest Department. Officials then brought in a specialised rescue team from neighbouring Sangareddy district, which caught the crocodile.

Villagers believe it came into the field from the nearby Manjeera river after the water level there dropped.

Farmers told to stay alert

Forest Range Officer Hemachandana asked farmers and fishermen to keep away from any crocodile they see along the Manjeera. She told them to alert forest officials immediately instead of trying to handle the animal themselves.

Farmers in the area were relieved after the crocodile was caught.
