Kochi: BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said the Board would hold discussions on increasing the number of teams in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

The WPL has had five teams since its inception in 2023.

“From next year, definitely we will have to do some brainstorming sessions to increase the number of teams as well as in other areas where we can improve.

“Not only the players, but we are also involved in so many other areas, right from coaches and selectors to various stakeholders,” Saikia told the WPL website on the sidelines of the auction here on Wednesday.

Saikia said the WPL had come a long way in four years and was now playing a major role in women’s cricket.

“WPL is one of the big leagues in franchise cricket after IPL. We have come a long way in four years and ultimately we are now dominating women’s cricket. WPL has contributed to the success of women’s cricket in India,” he said.

Sophie Molineux emerged as the costliest player at the auction, with UP Warriorz shelling out Rs 1.10 crore to acquire the services of the current Australia captain.
