JNTU Hyderabad students allege partial implementation of HC order

Hyderabad: Ten students of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Hyderabad have accused the university of not fully following a Telangana High Court order that allows them to appear for their semester examinations.

On the other hand, JNTU Registrar Dr A Jaya Laxmi has rejected the students’ allegations.

JNTU Hyderabad had suspended students.

It all began on September 3, when a clash took place on the campus. Following the clash, the students were suspended.

Later, the students approached the High Court and claimed that they had intervened after a female student was allegedly harassed.

After hearing the plea, the High Court, on October 27, not only stayed the university’s October 13 disciplinary circular but also directed JNTU Hyderabad to permit all of them to take their ongoing and remaining semester examinations.

As the disciplinary circular had banned two of the students from taking the International Business examination held on October 26, the court stay instructed the university to allow the students to appear for the examination.

Permission to attend classes

Following the court order, the students wrote to state higher education officials to seek permission to resume attending classes and return to their hostels.

On the allegation of not following the court order, Dr A Jaya Laxmi said that the university was following the court order.

A report in The Times of India quoted her as saying that the court order did not contain any specific direction asking the university to restore their classroom attendance or hostel access.
