Political Showdown: INDIA Bloc Plans Jan Mahabhiyog Against Gyanesh Kumar

The INDIA bloc is preparing to intensify its protest against the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar by organising a symbolic “Jan Mahabhiyog” at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s official residence at 10 Rajaji Marg. The event, scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm, will be chaired by former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, while Kharge is expected to present the symbolic impeachment motion. Opposition MPs, legal experts, lawyers, social activists and people allegedly affected by voter-list deletions under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) are expected to participate. The opposition says the initiative aims to raise public awareness about alleged irregularities in electoral processes and draw attention to its concerns about the Election Commission. The BJP has criticised the exercise, calling it a mock parliamentary event and arguing that the opposition is staging a symbolic proceeding because it cannot bring an actual impeachment motion in Parliament. The protest follows Rahul Gandhi’s repeated allegations of voter-list manipulation and criticism of Gyanesh Kumar since his appointment in February 2025. The opposition is also seeking to build momentum ahead of its planned November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan. However, removing the Chief Election Commissioner would require action through the constitutional parliamentary process, not a symbolic proceeding.
