Hyderabad: After a prolonged dry spell that left people waiting for rains for over a month, multiple locations in and around Hyderabad on Friday evening witnessed a brief but intense spell of downpour accompanied by thunder.

The thunderstorms on Friday brought much-needed relief to people in Hyderabad who had been experiencing dry weather since last month. While the sudden downpour caused major bottlenecks across multiple locations, people in general were glad to have experienced rains after a long time.

According to data compiled by the Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS), by 6 pm on Friday evening, the rainfall ranged from 10 mm to 37 mm across multiple locations in Hyderabad.

While the sudden downpour caused major bottlenecks across multiple locations, people in general were glad to have experienced rains after a long time.

The regions that received maximum rainfall (in mm) on Friday evening include Thorrur (Adibatla) in Rangareddy district (37) Medipally (33.3) and Hayathnagar (30.3). Other hard-hit localities included Pasumamula (Abdullapurmet) at 29.8 mm, Moulali (Uppal) at 28.5 mm, and Singapur Township (Ghatkesar) at 27 mm.

Additional rainfall activity (in mm) was registered across Pedda Amberpet (21.5), Shaikpet (17) , Rajiv Nagar in Nacharam (15.8), Dammaiguda (14), Kapra (13.5 mm), Nadargul in Balapur (12.5), Manikonda (11.3 mm), and Saroornagar (6.8 mm).

The heavy downpour caused traffic slowdowns during the evening rush hour in almost all major locations in Hyderabad, the Medchal-Malkajgiri district and the Cyberabad region including core areas like Secunderabad, Banjara Hills, Gachibowli, Dilsukhnagar, and Jubilee Hills.
