Italy Protests: Thousands Take to Streets in Over 50 Cities Against Inflation and War

Image: ABP Live

Thousands of people took to the streets in more than 50 cities across Italy to protest against rising inflation, ongoing wars and the militarisation of ports. The demonstrations were organised following a call by trade unions demanding an end to the conflict in the Middle East and a complete ban on transporting weapons through ships. Near the port of Genoa, protesters set tyres on fire, creating tension in the area. Trade unions from several European countries, including Greece, Spain and France, also joined the movement in solidarity. The protests have raised concerns over the growing impact of military activities on trade and civilian life. Meanwhile, the Italian government ordered demonstrators to return to work. With more than 100 ports worldwide reportedly participating in the movement, fears are growing that the disruption could seriously affect global supply chains, shipping operations and the movement of goods. The protests highlight mounting public anger over the economic burden of inflation and the consequences of the ongoing conflict.
