Public Impeachment: No Govt Representative as Opposition Plans Mock Trial Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar!

The political confrontation between the opposition and the Election Commission has intensified ahead of the INDIA bloc's mega rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan. According to sources, the public impeachment-style programme against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, scheduled to take place at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's residence, will have no symbolic representative from the ruling side. The government benches will remain empty, with only opposition leaders participating in the mock parliament. As part of the proceedings, one MP from each opposition alliance party will initially be given six minutes to present their arguments. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will preside over the programme, while Mallikarjun Kharge will introduce the proposal and opposition leaders will present their allegations against the Chief Election Commissioner. Individuals claiming to have been affected by deletions in electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) will also be invited to share their testimonies. The programme will include an alleged chargesheet against Gyanesh Kumar, highlighting the opposition's concerns over electoral transparency and voter list revisions. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will deliver the concluding speech, after which the opposition will publicly announce its political verdict. The event, initially scheduled for the previous day, was postponed due to adverse weather conditions. The opposition has described the exercise as a public impeachment rather than a formal parliamentary proceeding. With the mock parliament taking place just ahead of the November 1 mega rally, the INDIA bloc is preparing to intensify its campaign against the Election Commission and its handling of electoral rolls.
