Hyderabad: Within a month of promising to bring her home, BRS working president KT Rama Rao facilitated the safe return of a woman from Muscat, providing relief to a family from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s Kodangal constituency.

Thuppudu Lakshmi, a resident of Gokafasalwad village, went to Muscat with her husband Venkatappa on February 27 in search of employment. However, she was allegedly made to do work different from what the agent had promised. Her employer reportedly seized her passport and refused to send her back to India.

The agent who arranged her travel allegedly stopped responding to calls and demanded Rs 2 lakh to facilitate her return. With her Wi-Fi and SIM services also discontinued, Lakshmi lost contact with her family. She eventually managed to reach her son Raju through a neighbour’s internet connection and informed him of her plight.

Raju approached local Congress leaders for help, but in vain. Later, he met Rama Rao on September 29 and explained the family’s predicament. Responding to his appeal, the BRS working president assured him that he would resolve the passport issue and bring his mother home within a month. He wrote to the concerned authorities and initiated steps to secure her return.

On Monday, Lakshmi reached Hyderabad safely and reunited with her family. Together, they met Rama Rao at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad on Tuesday and thanked him for his intervention. Overcome with emotion, she said Rama Rao had kept his promise to her son and stood by the family during a difficult period. She said they would remain grateful for his help throughout their lives.
