A major counterfeit currency racket has been busted in Hyderabad, where Future City Police have arrested four accused and seized fake currency notes worth a staggering ₹6.78 crore. According to police officials, the entire recovered amount consists of counterfeit ₹500 notes, exposing a large-scale operation involved in printing fake Indian currency. Hyderabad Police Commissioner revealed that the breakthrough came when police intercepted a car near Ramoji Film City on National Highway 65 and arrested four suspects travelling in the vehicle. During interrogation, the accused allegedly provided information about a fake currency printing unit operating from a rented house in Kunthloor. Acting on the information, police conducted a raid at the location and uncovered an illegal printing setup used to manufacture counterfeit notes. The search operation led to the recovery of printers, laptops, currency-cutting machines and other equipment allegedly used in the production of fake currency. Investigators are now examining the scale of the operation, the source of the equipment and the possible distribution network through which the counterfeit notes were intended to circulate. Police have also revealed another disturbing aspect of the racket. According to preliminary findings, members of the gang allegedly impersonated police officers and threatened people to intimidate them. The arrests and massive currency seizure have raised serious concerns about organised financial crime and the circulation of counterfeit currency. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify other individuals who may be connected to the racket and determine whether the gang had links to a wider network.
