IND vs NZ 1st ODI: Rain Interrupts India's Chase; Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill Forced Off

Image: ABP Live

Rain has interrupted India's chase in the first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland, with the showers intensifying after a period of light drizzle. The groundstaff have moved in to cover the pitch, bringing the action to a halt as India look to chase down New Zealand's total of 185.

The interruption comes after India lost Rohit Sharma for a duck. Captain Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli were at the crease, attempting to steady the innings and build the chase. Kohli was seen tucking his bat inside his shirt as the rain picked up, seemingly trying to keep it dry.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner was also spotted discussing the weather with Daryl Mitchell, pointing towards the direction from which the rain was approaching. With the drizzle turning heavier, the groundstaff moved quickly to protect the playing surface.

India need 186 runs to win the series opener. The length of the interruption and the possibility of overs being reduced will now depend on how quickly the weather clears in Auckland.
