Shaun King calls claims of Houthi attack on Makkah a ‘shameful lie’

Renowned US writer and activist Shaun King has called claims of Houthi attacks targeting Makkah a “shameful and disgusting lie”, drawing a sharp rebuke from the social media account Inside the Haramain.
The controversy erupted after Imam of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, Sheikh Dr Ahmad al-Hudhaify, spoke about the Kingdom’s efforts to serve the Two Holy Mosques and their pilgrims.
In a video shared by Saudi broadcaster Al Ekhbariya on Tuesday, November 3, the imam described Houthi attacks on the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah as one of the greatest forms of criminality.
Reacting to the video, King rejected the suggestion that any group had attempted to attack the two holy sites.
“Nobody, not one single group or person on the planet, has attempted to bomb the Haram, the Kaaba, or Masjid Nabawi. Or even near them,” he wrote on X.
He accused the imam of spreading false information and using the sacred sites for political propaganda.

It is a shameful and disgusting lie that you are on television saying so.
How awful to use these sacred places for political propaganda.
Inside the Haramain hits back
The account Inside the Haramain strongly criticised King’s remarks, accusing him of publicly calling the Imams of the Two Holy Mosques liars.
“How disgraceful to publicly accuse the Imams of the Haramain of lying!” the account said.
It added that political differences did not give King the right to insult those serving the Two Holy Mosques or dismiss threats against their sanctity.
“The Haramain are sacred, not a platform for your propaganda. Shame on you!” it added.

The exchange comes amid an escalation in Houthi attacks and threats targeting Saudi Arabia in recent weeks, with the Kingdom’s coalition reporting repeated interceptions of drones and missiles.
