Warangal: BRS MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy on Wednesday held the Congress government responsible for the death of farmer Laxman Goud of Konne village in Jangaon district. He demanded immediate action against the District Collector over the alleged harassment of the family, besides financial assistance to the bereaved family and a government job for one of its members.

In a statement, Rajeshwar Reddy said Laxman Goud, who cultivated four acres of his own land and another six acres on lease, suffered crop losses due to inadequate irrigation and irregular power supply. The resulting financial distress and mental anguish led to his death, he alleged. He accused the Collector of harassing the farmer over his JCB business, forcing him to sell the machinery, and humiliating his family over the non-registration of ancestral land under the Bhu Bharati system.

Taking a dig at Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s remarks on the sacrifices of Telangana activists, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy accused the ruling Congress of lacking sincerity in supporting their families. He demanded that the government provide jobs, financial assistance and houses to the families of those who died during the Telangana movement, on the lines of the assistance extended by the previous BRS government.

He also warned against objectionable remarks against BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and his family, stating that attempts to undermine the Telangana movement and its sacrifices would not be tolerated.
