Hyderabad: Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited Ramayana: Part 1, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, has finally hit the big screens, and the first audience reactions are already pouring in. While the film has generated considerable excitement for its grand visuals, ambitious scale and stellar cast, its reception on social media has been mixed, with Yash’s portrayal of Ravana emerging as one of the biggest highlights.

As viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their opinions, several praised the film’s visual spectacle, music and performances. However, others expressed disappointment with its storytelling and emotional depth, with Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi’s performance as Sita becoming subjects of debate.

Yash’s Ravana steals the show

Among the performances, Yash’s portrayal of Ravana has emerged as a major talking point. Several viewers have praised the actor’s screen presence, calling his performance one of the film’s strongest aspects.

The face-off between Ravana and Jatayu, in particular, has received considerable appreciation, with audiences describing the sequence as thrilling and visually spectacular.

One viewer, who watched the film in IMAX, wrote on X, “Man, the Jatayu Vs Ravana sequence in #Ramayana genuinely left me speechless! I was completely glued to the screen. The thrill, the emotions, the sheer scale… I got goosebumps! Watching this on IMAX made it even more special. What a scene!”

Another viewer praised Yash’s performance, stating that the actor “pulls off his role with an aura-filled performance.”

#Ramayana is an honest attempt with good visuals and impressive performances Ranbir as Rama graceful Yash as Ravan outstanding and the music feel okay okay. However despite its grand vision the film lacks emotional depth and feels a bit slow over all its okay movie pic.twitter.com/fA2CYd86vh

#RAMAYANA — EPIC SCALE, MIXED EXECUTION

✅ Grand visuals and massive scale

✅ Yash as Ravana steals the spotlight

❌ Weak music and missing divine aura

❌ Slow second half and flat storytelling

❌ Cartoonish asuras and underwhelming action

❌ Emotional depth falls short…

Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in Ramayana faces criticism

While Yash has received considerable praise, Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Rama has faced criticism from a section of viewers.

Some social media users questioned the casting choices, with a few calling Ranbir and Sai Pallavi misfits for their respective roles. Ranbir’s performance, in particular, was described as dull by some viewers, who felt that it affected their overall experience of the film.

One X user expressed strong disappointment, writing, “Massive budget, zero soul. #Ranbir’s acting is painfully dull and ruined the entire experience. Yash as Ravana is literally the only reason to sit through this mess. My Rating: 1.5/5 (Strictly for Yash).”

My Honest Review: #Ramayana

Massive budget, zero soul. #Ranbir’s acting is painfully dull and ruined the entire experience.#Yash as Ravana is literally the only reason to sit through this mess.

Another viewer felt that the film struggled to deliver on its grand ambitions, writing, “Ultimately, Ramayana has the scale, the cast and the budget, but struggles with the one thing that matters most: telling a compelling story. A legendary epic deserved far better writing, stronger emotions and a much more memorable cinematic experience. Disappointing, exhausting and nowhere near the epic it wanted to be.”

Just watched #Ramayana, and honestly? It doesn’t even come close to the adrenaline of #Dhurandhar2.

Good VFX can’t save a slow film, and despite good VFX, there isn't a single jaw-dropping hero sequence like an Avengers. 📉🍿

Ranbir-Sai as Ram-Sita were always a miscast! 😐

Not sure whose idea it was to screen the 30 minute shorter English dubbed version, but that cut should honestly be completely scrapped. The original version has a better overall feel and is more palatable. Still have the same issues with the…

Sai Pallavi’s Sita also sparks debate

Sai Pallavi’s portrayal of Goddess Sita has also attracted mixed reactions. While some viewers have appreciated her performance, others have questioned the casting.

The actress has also faced criticism over a fight sequence featuring Sita. Some viewers took to social media to question the creative liberties taken with the scene, arguing that such an incident was not part of the original Ramayana.

The sequence has sparked a debate among audiences, with some questioning the film’s interpretation of the epic and its characters.

About Ramayana

Ramayana is a two-part cinematic adaptation of the ancient Indian epic, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash. The story follows Lord Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, whose journey takes him into exile and eventually to Lanka to rescue his wife, Sita, from Ravana.

Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi portrays Goddess Sita, while Yash essays the role of Ravana. The film also features Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Arun Govil as King Dashrath. The music for the ambitious project is composed by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman.

With its grand scale and star-studded cast, Ramayana: Part 1 has been one of the most anticipated films of the year. However, the early audience reactions suggest that while Yash’s Ravana has managed to impress several viewers, the film’s overall reception remains divided.
