Wanaparthy: Former Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy on Saturday inspected the dried-up paddy crop of Congress ward member Ramulu Naik at Patigadda Tanda in Gopalpet mandal, highlighting the hardships being faced by farmers in the State.

Niranjan Reddy appealed to the farmer not to lose heart and assured him that he would write to the District Collector seeking compensation for the crop loss. He also extended financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to the farmer from his personal funds.

Ramulu Naik said that despite his crop drying up due to a shortage of water and electricity, not a single Congress leader had come forward to support him. He thanked Niranjan Reddy for extending assistance.

Speaking on the occasion, the former Minister recalled that BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao had implemented several welfare and development programmes for the benefit of the farming community.

In contrast, the Revanth Reddy government had failed to provide adequate water and electricity to farmers, leaving them in distress, he alleged.

“Congress ward member Ramulu Naik cultivated paddy on six acres and had to get the transformer repaired three times. Despite this, the crop on three acres dried up due to severe power cuts. This reflects the plight of farmers under the Congress government,” Niranjan Reddy said.

He also criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for allegedly offering 110 TMC of Krishna water from Srisailam to Andhra Pradesh despite the State’s own irrigation requirements.
