Why have authors walked away from Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi?

Mumbai: Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi has witnessed another development ahead of its theatrical release. After a title change from Battle of Galwan, the project has now seen authors Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh end their association with it.
The defence journalists, whose book helped inspire the film, announced their decision in a joint statement on November 5. They explained that the story had evolved beyond their account of the Galwan incident.
Why did the authors leave?
The project was initially rooted in a chapter from their book India’s Most Fearless 3, which documented the June 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops in Galwan Valley. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film was first introduced as Battle of Galwan before being renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace.
Explaining their departure, the authors said the film had “moved beyond the account of the Galwan incident” that had brought them on board.

However, their statement remained warm towards the team. Both thanked Salman, Apoorva and the rest of the crew for the opportunity, expressed their respect for them and wished the film success. They did not detail which portions of the story had changed.
What Salman Khan said about the film
Meanwhile, Salman addressed speculation about the project at its November 6 trailer event. Responding to claims that the makers had faced government pressure to alter allegedly anti-China content, the actor denied the suggestion.
He also clarified that Maatrubhumi is an inspired story rather than a biopic. Speaking about its approach, Salman said the film explores what soldiers and their families experience on both sides of a conflict.
Maatrubhumi release date
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Maatrubhumi also stars Chitrangda Singh, with Mukesh Rishi, Ankur Bhatia, Zeyn Shaw and Abhilash Chaudhary in key roles. The film is now scheduled to arrive in theatres on December 4, 2026.
