Graeme Smith, the former South African captain who now leads the SA20 as commissioner, extended warm Diwali greetings to the cricket community as the festival season unfolded across India. The Diwali calendar this year began with Dhanteras on November 6, followed by Choti Diwali on November 7.

The main Diwali celebration and Lakshmi Puja took place on November 8, with Govardhan Puja scheduled for November 10 and Bhai Dooj on November 11. The gesture reflects the league's deepening connection with Indian cricket and its growing audience across the subcontinent.

"Wishing our cricket family a joyful Diwali. May the festival of lights bring happiness, success and many wonderful moments to you and your loved ones," Smith wrote on Instagram in a post from SA20.

SA20 Season 5 tournament details

The SA20 officially launched its fifth-season campaign on November 5, 2026, marking another important milestone for South Africa’s premier T20 cricket competition. The tournament is scheduled to take place from January 17 to February 21, 2027, featuring exciting matches across five major cities: Paarl, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Mondays have been designated as rest days throughout the competition, while weekends will feature double-header matches to provide fans with more cricketing action and entertainment.

The opening match will see three-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape take on Pretoria Capitals on Sunday, January 17, in Gqeberha. The fixture is particularly exciting as it repeats last season’s final, bringing two familiar rivals together at the start of the new campaign.

The tournament will conclude with the grand final on February 21 at the iconic Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.

Ticket sales have already commenced, with prices starting at just $3 for selected opening matches and fixtures through the Frenzy ticket category. Additionally, stadium ticket offices opened on November 15, 2026, giving supporters another opportunity to purchase tickets and experience the excitement of the fifth season of SA20 live from the stands.
