Anthropic files for IPO even as losses surge to $80B

Anthropic, one of the leading artificial intelligence (AI) companies and operating the large language model - Claude, has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) as it goes closer to become a publicly listed company.
The company will be listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange and will trade under the symbol of Ant.
Anthropic was co-founded by Dario Amodei and others in 2021 and for the six months of 2026 it reported a revenue of $16.2 billion even as losses touched $80.74 billion. In contrast, in the first half of 2025, the revenues of the company was $1.16 billion and losses of $12.96 billion.
Though, the growth of Anthropic has been literally stratospheric as its revenue for 2023 was just $41 million and rose to $4.5 billion in 2025.
However, the company did not specify the date when it plans to list on the Nasdaq stock exchange or neither the pricing of its shares. Also, it did not provide information on how much money it is planning to raise.
The IPO of Anthropic will be a much awaited event for the entire technology industry given the strides made by AI companies. Anthropic has a valuation of $965 billion during its last funding round in May 2026.
Interestingly, Anthropic market rival OpenAI has said it will go for a public listing next year.
In its IPO filing, Anthropic said, “We believe that AI is one of the most consequential technologies in human history. If managed well, it could rapidly accelerate scientific innovation, greatly increase economic growth rates, bring cures for major diseases within reach and solve problems that have resisted generations of human efforts.”
“Anthropic aims to realise these while navigating and preventing the risks that come with a technological revolution this fast and this powerful,”
Anthropic believes the diffusion of AI through the global economy represents one of the largest opportunities in history to improve how humans live and work, and it is just beginning. It further noted that the world has only begun to use the capabilities of today’s frontier models, and the gap between what Claude can do and how broadly it is used represents one of our largest growth opportunities, alongside continued advances at the frontier.
