Cyclone Havoc: Arnab Batters Coastal States With Winds Up to 150 km/h

Cyclone Arnab has caused extensive damage and disruption across coastal Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Odisha, according to the report. The landfall process reportedly began around 1:23 a.m. near the Yanam coast, with winds reaching 135–145 km/h and gusts of up to 150 km/h. Heavy rainfall, rough seas and powerful winds have uprooted trees, damaged roads and electricity poles, and caused widespread flooding. In Kakinada, the coastal road connecting the town to Uppada village was severely damaged by powerful sea waves, cutting off the direct route and forcing residents to take a detour of approximately 40 kilometres via Pithapuram. In Yanam, several feet of water entered homes and flooded neighbourhoods, including Sadi P Nagar and Gorampet. Authorities have continued evacuation and relief operations, moving residents from vulnerable areas to safer locations and relief camps. In Kakinada, teams using JCB machines and cutters have been clearing fallen trees from roads. Visakhapatnam reported submerged railway tracks and vehicle subways, while Chennai's Ennore area experienced flooding after strong sea waves crossed coastal barriers. Meanwhile, heavy rain and strong winds have also affected Odisha's coastal areas, including Gopalpur. Rail services, road traffic and flights have been disrupted, while authorities have urged residents to remain indoors and follow safety advisories.
