Cyclone Alert: Cyclone Arnab Triggers Powerful Winds Along Andhra Coast

Cyclone Arnab has caused widespread disruption across coastal areas, with Andhra Pradesh among the worst-affected regions in the report. The cyclone's landfall process reportedly began around 1:23 a.m., bringing powerful winds, heavy rainfall and rough seas. Wind speeds were reported at around 135–145 km/h, with stronger gusts reaching up to 150 km/h. In Kakinada, the road connecting the coastal area to Uppada village was severely damaged by powerful sea waves, leaving the village cut off by the direct route. Residents now reportedly face a detour of around 40 kilometres to reach the village. Uprooted trees, broken electricity poles and damaged roads were also reported across affected areas. In Visakhapatnam, railway tracks and subway passages were reportedly submerged, while Chennai experienced powerful waves crossing coastal barriers and flooding nearby settlements. Heavy rain also caused waterlogging in low-lying coastal areas of Odisha, disrupting road and rail traffic. According to the report, more than 100,000 people had been moved to safer locations. Disaster management teams urged residents to remain indoors and avoid travelling as dangerous winds and rough seas continued. Authorities warned that the next few hours would remain critical while the landfall process continued.
