Cyclone Fury: Arnab Triggers Flooding and Widespread Disruption Across Coastal Areas

Image: ABP Live

Cyclone Arnab has caused widespread disruption across parts of Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry, with heavy rainfall, strong winds, flooding and damage to infrastructure reported in several areas. In Yanam, rain ahead of the cyclone led to water entering homes and flooding neighbourhoods, including Sadim Sadipi Nagar and Gurempet. Puducherry minister Maladi Krishna Rao visited affected areas, while Lieutenant Governor Kailash Nath and senior officials monitored the situation. Strong winds also uprooted trees near the entrance to Yanam on National Highway 216. In Kakinada, police and administrative teams continued relief and rescue operations, clearing fallen trees with the help of JCB machines and cutters. Residents of flood-prone areas were being moved to relief camps. In Amalapuram, powerful winds caused trees to sway violently, while gusts of up to 150 km/h had been forecast during the cyclone’s passage. Heavy rain flooded railway tracks near Convent Junction in Visakhapatnam, and fallen trees damaged property. In Chennai’s Ennore area, seawater reportedly crossed protective barriers and flooded roads and residential areas, overturning vehicles and disrupting traffic. Meanwhile, strong winds and rain were also reported in Gopalpur, Odisha, as authorities continued monitoring the cyclone’s impact.
