Hyderabad: Amid drought conditions in Telangana, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Wednesday, October 28, directed all government offices to use treated water from November 1. This would continue all of December.

The CM made this announcement at a review meeting on Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and treated water utilisation at the Bodhi Pavilion.

Asserting that there should be no compromise on water quality, Reddy also directed that a special officer be appointed at each plant. These plants must be open to HYDRAA monitoring, and tankers carrying treated water should be tracked, said the CM.

Reddy also asked the officials to see if the STPs could be run on solar power.

Treated water should also be used for landscaping at the Secretariat, the CM’s Office, public parks, and for road cleaning along the Outer Ring Road and in other areas, he said.

He said the use of treated water should be made mandatory as a condition for granting building permissions. Treated water could also be supplied to data centres. The CM also called for promoting private STPs, a publicity campaign to encourage treated water use, and a toll-free helpline for queries related to treated water.

Concerns about drinking water

The CM said that under no circumstances should a shortfall of drinking water be allowed. The supply of drinking water must be continuously tracked, he said, warning the officials against negligence.

Meanwhile, Water Board officials briefed the CM on the availability of drinking water. Also present at the meeting were Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, CMO Secretary Manik Raj, Cyberabad Municipal Commissioner Srujana, Malkajgiri Municipal Commissioner Vinay Krishna Reddy, Managing Director of the Water Board Ashok Reddy, Director of School Education Naveen Nicholas, TGSPDCL Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil, Member Secretary of the Pollution Control Board Ravi, and Special Commissioner of the Information and Public Relations Department Mukunda Reddy.
