Medak: In a tragic incident, a young widow allegedly threw her two daughters into the Manjeera River before jumping into it herself on Tuesday.

Gangula Saritha (27), a native of Malkapur in Kamareddy district, had been struggling to raise her children after her husband died by suicide a couple of years ago. Working as a security guard at a private company in Hyderabad, Saritha supported the education of her daughters, Vaishnavi (7) and Sravani (6). However, she was reportedly finding it difficult to balance her work with caring for her young daughters.

On Monday, she came to Medak to get her Aadhaar card details corrected and spent the day at her sister’s residence. Instead of returning to Hyderabad, she went to Chinna Ghanpur near Kulcharam mandal on Tuesday, where she allegedly threw her daughters into the river before jumping into it herself.

Before taking the drastic step, Saritha called her father, Bala Kistaiah, and informed him of her decision.

After hours of search efforts, officials recovered the bodies on Wednesday. Police have registered a case.
