UP MLC Results: SP Cites ‘God’s Blessings’ After BJP Loses Key Seats in Kashi, Mathura and Prayagraj

The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council election results have triggered a fresh political confrontation between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with religion emerging as a key theme in the debate. SP spokesperson Anurag Bhadauria has claimed that divine blessings are with the Samajwadis after the party's performance in several important constituencies. In a social media post, he wrote that after Ayodhya, the SP had now won in Kashi, Mathura and Prayagraj. Bhadauria argued that the Samajwadi Party follows the ideals and conduct associated with Lord Ram, while accusing the BJP of using religion for political purposes. He said his party focuses on public welfare, development, justice for students, women and farmers, and relief from inflation and unemployment. The statement comes after the SP's victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Faizabad, which includes Ayodhya, where Awadhesh Prasad emerged victorious. The party is now using its MLC election performance to challenge the BJP's political narrative around religious centres. According to the election updates discussed, the SP secured victories in key constituencies associated with Kashi, Prayagraj and the wider Mathura-Agra region, along with Lucknow. The broader election results across four states have also highlighted defeats for the BJP in Patna, where the RJD won, and Nagpur, where the Congress secured victory. Political observers believe the SP is attempting to counter the BJP on an issue that has long been central to the latter's electoral strategy. The results have given the opposition fresh talking points ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections
