Hyderabad: Director General of Police C.V. Anand on Thursday inaugurated a blood donation camp at the City Armed Reserve (CAR) headquarters as part of the Police Commemoration Week observances, highlighting the importance of voluntary blood donation and public service.

Addressing police personnel, officers, medical professionals and donors, Anand said blood donation was equivalent to saving lives and commended the police personnel and other volunteers for coming forward in large numbers.

He said the police department was organising various programmes until October 31 to honour police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. While the public celebrated festivals with their families, police personnel remained on duty to ensure public safety, maintain communal harmony and prevent untoward incidents, he said.

Anand appealed to private hospitals to help restore public confidence in blood and organ donation by ensuring transparency in their practices. He stressed that voluntary blood donation was essential to meet emergency medical requirements, particularly for accident victims, patients undergoing surgery and those suffering from thalassemia, who require regular blood transfusions.

He congratulated the organisers, medical teams and donors for their contribution. Similar blood donation camps were being organised at 37 locations across Hyderabad, with around 5,000 units of blood expected to be collected, he said.

The DGP also flagged off vehicles for the Spandana initiative, aimed at strengthening the response to Dial 112 calls involving women’s safety and child protection. The dedicated vehicles would help the teams respond more effectively to emergencies and coordinate with the Dial 112 system.
