Tesla Model Y gets new Halloween-themed lighting, sound, app and camera functions through an OTA software update in India

Ghost-themed vehicle graphics, spooky sounds, flashing lights and a new seasonal light sequence have arrived on Tesla Model Y vehicles in India as part of a Halloween software update. Tesla has rolled out the feature remotely through its over-the-air update system for the Model Y and Model Y L letting owners access the new functions without taking their vehicle to a service centre.

Trick or Treat Mode turns the Model Y into an interactive Halloween display when visitors approach the vehicle. Once activated, the car responds through its exterior lighting and speakers, playing spooky sound effects and flashing the lights. Tesla has also prepared a separate Signature Light Show for the update. The sequence combines new lighting patterns, Halloween-themed vehicle wraps and a seasonal lock sound.

Another function called Ghost Costume changes the vehicle avatar displayed through the Tesla app. The regular Model Y graphic receives a ghost-themed appearance for the Halloween period. Meanwhile, Photobooth Experience adds a camera-based feature which is specifically made for Halloween photographs from the vehicle.

Voice From Beyond takes a different approach by letting an owner speak through the Tesla mobile application and send the message through the car. Tesla says the vehicle reproduces the message in its own distinctive voice, giving owners another interactive function for guests and trick-or-treaters. It must be noted that the software updates can be sent directly to compatible cars and do not require a workshop appointment for installation.

The same system is used by Tesla for vehicle functions, software revisions and other changes delivered after purchase. Indian customers can also try Halloween Mode at Tesla locations across the country. Experience Centers are currently listed in Noida, Delhi, Gurugram, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Mumbai. Tesla also operates approved collision centres in Pune and Ahmedabad.

Test drives can be scheduled for the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive and the six-seat Model Y L through the company’s Indian test drive program. The American EV manufacturer is running its Switch & Save Carnival alongside the seasonal activity and the campaign has been extended through Diwali. The company is also using its Experience Centers to present Model Y financing and ownership cost calculations to prospective customers.

Its advertised finance example starts at Rs. 39,990 per month after a Rs. 6 lakh down payment. The calculation uses a seven-year tenure and an indicative annual percentage rate of 8.5 per cent under a step-up EMI plan, and the actual financing depends on lender approval and applicable terms. Tesla estimates monthly fuel and maintenance savings of Rs. 20,000.

It takes the claimed effective monthly ownership cost to Rs. 19,990. The calculation assumes Model Y electricity consumption of 14.3 kWh per 100 km, electricity priced at Rs. 7 per kWh and service expenditure of Rs. 2 per km for the comparison vehicle. Tesla also cites reduced routine service requirements, regenerative braking and the absence of engine oil, spark plugs and multi-speed transmission servicing as factors behind its ownership cost estimate.
