Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Tata, Hyundai and Mahindra are preparing new electric vehicles for India, covering everything from family MPVs to premium SUVs
Several major brands are working on new electric vehicles for India. Among the more interesting ones are Maruti Suzuki’s YMC electric MPV, Honda’s 0 Alpha, the Tata Safari EV, Hyundai’s upcoming compact electric SUV and Mahindra’s BE.07. Here is a closer look at what each one is expected to offer.
1. Maruti Suzuki YMC electric MPV
Maruti Suzuki is working on its first electric MPV, internally codenamed YMC. Recent test sightings suggest a family-focused vehicle with a short bonnet, long roofline and upright rear section. The proportions point towards a spacious cabin with a possible three-row seating arrangement. The YMC is expected to use the HEARTECT-e platform that underpins the e Vitara.

It could also share the latter’s 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery options, although this has not been confirmed. The interior is expected to feature a dual-screen dashboard similar to the e Vitara. The YMC could be an important product for Maruti, particularly as it looks to enter the larger electric family vehicle segment. It could take on models such as the Kia Carens Clavis EV, depending on its final seating configuration and positioning.
2. Honda 0 Alpha electric SUV
Honda’s first electric SUV for India will be based on the 0 Alpha concept showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. Unlike some of Honda’s global EV projects, the 0 Alpha is being developed with India as an important production base. It will be manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara facility in Rajasthan and is also intended for export markets, including Japan.

The production model is expected to retain much of the concept’s distinctive design, including its upright rear profile, thick C-pillar and prominent LED lighting elements. Spy shots have also offered an early look at the cabin, which appears to feature a large central touchscreen and a smaller digital driver’s display. Honda has not disclosed the powertrain specifications. Reports suggest two LFP battery options, potentially in the 65 kWh – 75 kWh range, and a single-motor front-wheel-drive configuration. These details remain unconfirmed.
3. Tata Safari EV
Tata Motors’ electric lineup will expand into the three-row SUV market with the Safari EV. It is anticipated to include a specialised electric drivetrain, EV-specific appearance, and the recognisable Safari dimensions. The SUV and the Harrier EV are probably going to have similar electric architecture and parts. This might result in a bigger battery pack, and more expensive models might come with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup.

It is anticipated to include a roomy three-row cabin with high-end equipment, such as a huge touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, and cutting-edge driver assistance systems. Tata has yet to confirm the final battery capacity, range, however, we can expect the Harrier EV battery packs and powertrain to be carried over. The Safari EV will likely be launched in January 2027.
4. Hyundai compact electric SUV (HE1i)
Hyundai is developing a new compact electric SUV, internally codenamed HE1i. The model is expected to sit below the Creta Electric and target buyers looking for a more affordable electric SUV. The HE1i has been spotted testing, although much of its design remains concealed.

It is expected to feature a relatively upright SUV silhouette, a modern digital cabin and a comprehensive equipment list. Level 2 ADAS has also been reported as a possibility. Hyundai has indicated that the model will make its debut by the end of 2026. However, battery capacity, motor specifications, claimed range and pricing have not been officially disclosed. Also, the new EV will likely be called the Hyundai IONIQ P.
5. Mahindra BE.07
The BE.07 is part of Mahindra’s Born Electric range and was originally showcased as one of five electric SUV concepts based on the INGLO platform. Measuring 4,565 mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,660mm in height, with a 2,775 mm wheelbase, it is designed as a spacious, premium electric SUV. The production version is expected to retain the distinctive styling of the BE family, with sharp lighting elements, muscular proportions and a coupe-inspired roofline.

The cabin is likely to focus on digital technology and a premium experience. Mahindra has not announced the final battery options, motor configurations or range figures for the BE.07. Its original product roadmap indicated an October 2026 launch, but the production launch timeline now appears to have shifted towards 2027.
