Sangareddy: At a time when cotton farmers had been getting poor yields due to drought and cotton prices were soaring, some unidentified miscreants allegedly stolen about 10 quintals of cotton from a farmer’s field at Maddikunta in Sadasivapet mandal.

The tenant farmer, Brahamananda Reddy, cultivated cotton on four acres at Maddikunta apart from cultivating the same crop on eight acres near Sadasivapet.

While he was busy harvesting the crop on eight acres of land, Reddy, who returned to his Maddikunta field to harvest the crop on Saturday, found the cotton missing. The tenant farmer alleged that some persons had stolen the cotton during the night.

Reddy, after lodging a complaint with the Sadasivapet police, urged them to trace the accused. The farmer urged the police to step up patrolling around agriculture fields too. Since the cotton is being sold for over Rs 9,000 per quintal, he claimed to have suffered a loss of nearly Rs 10 lakhs.
