Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) on Sunday began supplying treated water through its ‘Green Tankers’ for gardening and landscaping at Telangana Secretariat, replacing about 1.5 lakh litres of freshwater daily.

HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy flagged off specially designated green water tankers for the initiative. Treated water is also being used to maintain the landscape garden at Greenlands Guest House in Begumpet, the official residence of Telangana chief secretary. The measure replaces about 30,000 litres of freshwater daily.

Officials of HMWSSB and HMDA said the initiatives were intended to conserve freshwater, promote the reuse of treated wastewater and encourage environmentally responsible practices in public spaces.

Secretariat has adopted treated wastewater for landscape maintenance, setting an example for other government institutions and public establishments to embrace water recycling and sustainable urban development, said a press release.
