Extend graduate MLC voter registration deadline, says Kavitha

Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena president K Kavitha on Monday, November 2, urged the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to extend the deadline for voter registration for the Graduate MLC elections.

Kavitha met Telangana CEO C. Sudarshan Reddy at the BRKR Bhavan in Hyderabad and submitted a representation requesting an extension of the voter registration deadline.

She pointed out that the deadline for graduate voter registration ends on November 6 and urged the authorities to allow registrations until the election notification is issued and the nomination process is completed.

Speaking to the media later, Kavitha said that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process would continue until November 21, so it was not reasonable to close graduate voter registration this week.

She said the CEO had agreed to consider their suggestion to extend the graduate voter registration deadline until the completion of the nomination process.

‘MLC elections opportunity for new parties’

Kavitha stated that Graduate MLC elections provide an excellent opportunity for new political parties like theirs to communicate their agenda to the people.

She appealed to Gen Z voters and graduates to take these elections seriously and participate in the electoral process.

She also pointed out that conducting a fresh graduate voter registration process before every election places an enormous burden on candidates contesting the elections. She said they would urge the EC to bring changes to this system.

Kavitha further expressed concern that owners of major educational institutions were entering the MLC electoral fray and allegedly facilitating large-scale voter registrations within their own institutions, resulting in elections becoming one-sided. She said the Election Commission needed to pay special attention to these issues.

Kavitha said that the registration of the Telangana Rakshana Sena was still pending with the ECI and requested the CEO’s assistance in expediting the process.
