Tehran: Pro-government demonstrators in Tehran set fire to a giant banner depicting US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff during a rally on Wednesday, November 4.

Thousands gathered at Enghelab Square to mark the 47th anniversary of the 1979 takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran. Waving Iranian flags, they chanted “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” and burned American and Israeli flags.

Videos showing the banner being set ablaze and demonstrators chanting slogans have since circulated on social media.

The demonstration followed the Wednesday, November 3, US midterm elections, in which Democrats secured control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, dealing a setback to Trump’s Republican Party.

Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf welcomed the outcome, writing on X: “Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message.”

He warned that Washington would face consequences if it ignored the voters’ message.

Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message.

If the US govt betrays their public will to serve international paymasters and blackmailers, it will learn our NO comes with a Nightmare.

However, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei dismissed suggestions that the election results would change Washington’s approach towards Tehran.

The rally took place against the backdrop of tensions following the war that began on February 28 with US and Israeli strikes on Iran. The possibility of renewed military action remains a concern as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation.
