Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG has secured 29.36 points for adult protection and 45 points for child protection in the latest round of Bharat NCAP crash tests
Mahindra introduced the XUV 3XO ZNG in October 2026 as a factory-fitted CNG alternative to its ICE compact SUV. Barely three weeks after its market introduction, the model has secured a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. The manufacturer claims that the ZNG is the first sub-compact CNG SUV in India to achieve the result. The new assessment comes two years after the regular XUV 3XO received its full marks from the same crash test organisation.
The XUV 3XO ZNG uses a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder mStallion turbocharged engine that develops around 110 hp and 200 Nm of torque. Interestingly, the output is identical in petrol and CNG modes and maximum torque is available between 1,500rpm and 3,500rpm. A six-speed manual gearbox handles transmission duties. Mahindra claims acceleration from 0 to 60 kmph in 4.9 seconds and from 0 to 100 kmph in 11.8 seconds in CNG mode. Its certified fuel efficiency stands at 24.7km/kg.
The dual-cylinder CNG system sits beneath the luggage compartment preserving a flat loading floor and 270 litres of boot capacity. The regular petrol XUV 3XO offers 364 litres and thus the CNG installation reduces usable luggage space by 94 litres. The spare wheel is mounted underneath the vehicle. The ZNG is sold in four variants – starting at Rs. 9.99 lakh for the MX Edge and going up to Rs. 12.27 lakh (both, ex-showroom) for the RevX A.
Variant Price (ex-showroom) XUV 3XO ZNG MX Edge Rs. 9.99 lakh XUV 3XO ZNG RevX Edge (O) Rs. 10.79 lakh XUV 3XO ZNG AX5 Rs. 11.19 lakh XUV 3XO ZNG RevX A Rs. 12.27 lakhThe Bharat NCAP assessment awarded the CNG SUV 29.36 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 for child occupant protection. The adult score is identical to the regular XUV 3XO tested in 2024. However, the earlier model recorded 43 points for child protection – two points fewer than the newly announced ZNG result.
The XUV 3XO ZNG has more than 35 standard safety features comprising six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, ISOFIX child-seat mounts and three-point seat belts for all passengers. The factory CNG installation also has an integrated gas-leak detection system. If a leak is detected, the system automatically switches the engine to petrol operation.
A separate automatic switchover function operates when the CNG supply runs low. These protective measures are available from the base variant. The MX Edge gets a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, cruise control, a reversing camera, rear air-conditioning vents and a 60:40 split rear seat. The AX5 receives twin 10.25-inch displays, dual-zone automatic climate control, alloy wheels and in-car connected functions.
The top-spec RevX A features a sunroof, Dolby Atmos audio, black leatherette upholstery, and additional dark exterior detailing. The Tata Nexon CNG and Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG are the key rivals to the Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG. Its bookings and customer deliveries began last month.
