Hyderabad: In a pioneering move to redefine urban workspaces, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has decided to transform its public parks into fully equipped outdoor Work-from-Home (WFH) zones.

The initiative is intended to blend nature with productivity by offering tech professionals, freelancers, and remote workers an alternative to traditional indoor desk spaces.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, CMC Commissioner G Srijana said that 30 to 40 green spaces with an extent of more than one acre were selected to facilitate the WFH spaces in Serilingampally, Kukatpally and Madhapur zones.

“The civic body plans to upgrade selected green spaces across the IT corridor with high-speed public Wi-Fi, ergonomic outdoor seating, weather-resistant workstations, dedicated charging kiosks, parking and cafeterias,” she said. A proposal to collect user charges of Rs 50 or Rs 100 per person is under active consideration. Srijana said possibilities were also being explored to encourage IT companies develop green spaces under their CSR initiatives.

CMC to inaugurate 300 new parks by January 2027

The CMC Commissioner said efforts were on to inaugurate 300 new parks across the civic body limits by January 2027. The initiative is to expand urban forestry, improve local air quality, and provide large green spaces for the region’s growing residential and corporate workforce.

CMC is also repairing 97 older parks suitable for the general public, including daily walkers and visitors, said Srijana. CMC is converting scattered open plots into public spaces as the city’s commercial footprint expands and the initiative seeks to provide residents with accessible spaces for recreation while supporting public health infrastructure and ecological balance in the city’s technology hub.
