Hyderabad: Deepavali was celebrated with traditional fervour across Telangana on Sunday, November 8.

The festivities began with prayers at temples and homes, with people in new clothes, houses decked in lights and flowers, and crackers bursting through the evening

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar and other leaders greeted the people on the occasion.

In a post on X, the governor urged people to celebrate the festival with love, compassion and a spirit of service.

He said Deepavali symbolised the victory of light over darkness, and called upon everyone to spread happiness, support the underprivileged, promote indigenous products and celebrate safely.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, accompanied by his wife Janaki Shukla, visited the Bhagya Lakshmi temple at Charminar here, a message issued by Lok Bhavan said.

Temple trustee Shashikala and the priests received the couple, who offered prayers and performed special pujas to the deity. The priests later presented them with teertha prasadam (sacred water).

The governor wished that the country and Telangana would prosper with the Goddess’s blessings, and that people would be blessed with happiness, peace and good health.

Reddy wished that the radiance of the Festival of Lights would fill every home with happiness and prosperity, a release said.

He hoped people would celebrate the festival with joy and enthusiasm, lighting up their homes and surroundings with lamps.

The CM appealed to people to protect the environment during the festivities and to prevent untoward incidents while bursting crackers.

He called upon everyone, including children and youth, to celebrate Deepavali in a safe and joyful environment, the release added.
