Hyderabad: BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao and former Minister S Niranjan Reddy condemned the house arrest of former Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy and the arrests of LB Nagar MLA Sudheer Reddy, MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar, BRS leader Karthik Reddy and others while they were heading to the public hearing on the Musi Riverfront Development Project. They demanded the immediate release of the arrested leaders.

Harish Rao accused the Congress government of imposing Emergency-like rule by preventing Opposition leaders from attending the hearing. He questioned the proposed expenditure of Rs 1.5 lakh crore on the Musi project when farmers were facing drought and people were struggling. Alleging that the government was more concerned about commissions than drought relief, he accused it of using the police to suppress dissent.

Niranjan Reddy termed the arrests illegal and accused the government of silencing people in the name of public consultation. He demanded that opinions be sought from all sections of the public together, alleging that the Congress government was pursuing a divide-and-rule policy to secure approval for its corruption project. He asserted that looting people’s money and properties in the name of development was unacceptable.
