Siddipet: A 15-year-old student died at a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) hostel on Wednesday following excessive bleeding, triggering allegations of negligence by the staff and protests by public representatives and student organisations.

Davulagalla Lasya, a resident of Gudikandula in Thoguta mandal, was studying Class 10 at KGBV Raghavapur, located near Siddipet. She had spent the Dasara holidays with her parents until last Sunday and returned to the school.

The girl reportedly began bleeding at around 10 pm on Wednesday, following which the staff informed her parents. However, she suffered excessive bleeding. When the staff rushed her to the government hospital in Siddipet, she fell unconscious, and doctors declared her dead. The incident left the hostel inmates and parents in shock.

The incident also sparked protests by public representatives and student organisations. Dubbak MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy and other BRS leaders staged a protest at the institute and attempted to enter the premises. However, the police took them into custody and released them later. Activists of various student organisations also staged a protest at the government hospital in Siddipet, where Lasya’s body was kept for postmortem.

The protests created tension in the area. Speaking on the occasion, Prabhakar Reddy said the girl could have survived had she been shifted to the hospital in time. Holding the staff responsible for her death, the MLA alleged that their failure to respond promptly had cost the girl’s life.

He demanded stern action against those responsible for the incident after a thorough inquiry. Reddy also demanded compensation for the deceased girl’s family.
