BRS questions Congress govt’s ‘lopsided’ priorities amid drought

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar on Thursday, October 29, slammed the Congress government in Telangana for pursuing the Musi Riverfront Development Project when the state was suffering from drought.

“For any policy intervention or any development project that any government brings in, it must have its contextual appropriateness. Unfortunately, in Telangana state government, the only context that the government is looking for is corruption…Whenever and wherever there is a possibility of indulging in corruption, they are bringing in a project,” the MLC said while speaking to ANI.

He said that the Musi project is estimated to cost Rs 1.5 lakh crore, with Rs 7,345 crore allocated for the first phase.

While it was important to revive the Musi, a budget and policies to handle the El Nino crisis should take priority.

“There is no money for drought relief. There is no money for drought compensation to the farmers. There is no money for pensioners and there is no money for the fee reimbursement; complete financial bankruptcy. But this man (Chief Minister Revanth Reddy) has such a lopsided priority to bring in the Musi River Front Development, which we strongly condemn.” Sravan stated.

He said that the BRS also wants the Musi to be revived. He claimed that former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) had also brought in interventions and established several sewage treatment plants and tried to protect the Musi.

However, a project that cost Rs 16,000 crore during the BRS regime has now jumped to Rs 1.5 lakh crore, he said.

“When the whole country is suffering in the name of El Nino, particularly Telangana, Revanth Reddy wants to take loan from Asian Development Bank and then beautify a river,” he said.

“People are not demanding beautification. People are demanding, ‘ How do I feed my stomach? How do I provide irrigation water to the farm fields?” he added.

He alleged that the CM was indulging in corruption in the name of the Musi project and planned to amass thousands of crores in corruption.
