Tata Motors, Honda, and Hyundai to unveil new locally manufactured electric cars for the Indian market in the next two months

From the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV to the Maruti e Vitara/Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella and the Kia Syros EV, 2026 has seen several new locally manufactured electric cars arrive in Indian showrooms. Towards the end of the year, three more such zero-emission models are expected to be unveiled.

As early as November, Tata Motors is likely to introduce the Safari.ev as its flagship EV, following which the Altroz would remain its only model available without an electric alternative. Set to challenge the Mahindra XEV 9S and the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, this will be a three-row electric SUV designed for customers who often travel in large groups. The company should offer it with a choice of six and seven seats.

The Safari.ev will be more than just an electrified Safari. Spy shots have shown it featuring a new interior with three dashboard displays, including a passenger touchscreen that allows the front passenger to watch videos, play games, control music, and operate navigation. An independent rear suspension should enhance comfort. Tata Motors will likely give a choice of standard-range RWD, extended-range RWD, and extended-range AWD variants, and we expect the middle configuration to be capable of travelling around 600 kilometres on a single charge.

Honda will unveil its first made-in-India electric car, derived from the 0 Alpha concept, on 2 December, with the launch likely following in January 2027. This model will be a midsize SUV featuring a swoopy exterior designed for high aerodynamic efficiency and great road presence.

The interior will also be completely different from other Honda cars currently sold in India, featuring a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a tablet-like touchscreen infotainment system, and a fully digital instrument cluster. Two single-motor FWD variants are expected to be offered, featuring 65-75 kWh LFP battery packs. The top variant should have a range of around 650 kilometres.

Later in December, Hyundai will unveil an all-electric compact SUV codenamed ‘HE1i’. This model will feature a boxy and rugged exterior designed to give the strong impression of an authentic SUV, along with futuristic design details, such as Hyundai’s signature pixel-themed lights.

Inside, this model will debut Hyundai’s new global interior design language, pairing a slim digital instrument cluster and a tablet-like large touchscreen infotainment system. The former would measure 9.9 inches diagonally, and the latter would measure 12.9 inches.
