Hyderabad: Heavy downpour between Friday evening and the early hours of Saturday lashed Hyderabad and its surrounding districts, bringing much-needed relief to people after a prolonged dry spell.

The heavy rainfall, mostly concentrated in and around Hyderabad, recorded 112 mm at Keesara in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, according to Telangana Development Planning Society (TSDPS) rainfall data.

The sudden and intense downpour on Friday evening caught the public by surprise, breaking a long stretch of hot and humid weather across the region.

Within Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, several areas experienced heavy rainfall. Bahadurpura registered 82.3 mm of rainfall near the Zoo Park, while Serilingampally recorded 73.8 mm at Kakatiya Hills in Madhapur.

Other locations within the city limits that recorded heavy rainfall were Shaikpet (67.5 mm) and Rooplal Bazar (65 mm) in the Bahadurpura area.

Neighbouring districts also witnessed significant overnight rainfall. Valigonda in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district recorded 118 mm, while Narketpalle in Nalgonda registered 90.5 mm.

While the rains brought a pleasant dip in temperatures and offered respite from the humid heat, the heavy overnight downpour caused significant waterlogging in low-lying areas.
