Norton step into the 450 cc class through the new Urban and is equipped with an aluminium frame, KYB suspension and an 8-inch TFT touchscreen amongst a host of other features

Norton has used EICMA 2026 to reveal the new 450 Urban – one year after presenting the Manx, Manx R, Atlas and Atlas GT as the first motorcycles from its renewed portfolio. The new model moves Norton into a smaller capacity class and will be sold in two versions. The 450 Urban also targets European A2 licence holders through a lighter chassis and a 454 cc single-cylinder engine.

The aluminium frame is one of the standout mechanical details. Norton targets a kerb weight below 180 kg and the motorcycle uses a fuel tank of 12 litres. The front end gets fully adjustable 43 mm KYB upside-down forks while the rear uses a KYB monoshock adjustable for rebound and preload. ByBre supplies a 320 mm front disc and a 240 mm rear disc and cornering ABS is part of the braking system.

The two versions differ mainly through styling and equipment treatment. The road-based motorcycle gets silver 17-inch cast wheels, a silver frame and road tyres. The second version adopts black cast wheels, a grey frame and swingarm, extended mudguards, hand guards, fork protectors, a flyscreen and different seat trim. Norton also cites the 1927 CS1 as one of the design references for the visual line running from the rear wheel towards the shallow fuel tank.

The 454 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine produces 47 PS at 8,000 rpm and 45 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Power goes through a six-speed gearbox and a quickshifter is listed among the rider technologies. Norton says the engine has been tuned for linear acceleration and in-gear response while the overall specification keeps the motorcycle inside European A2 regulations.

The electronics list is another substantial part of the 450 Urban. The motorcycle gets an 8-inch TFT touchscreen, smartphone connectivity, keyless ignition, heated grips, tyre pressure monitoring and an integrated USB-C charger. The rider aids consist of traction control, cruise control, cornering ABS and three riding modes. Dynamic LED headlights are also part of the equipment list.

The 450 Urban arrives as Norton starts customer deliveries of the Manx R and Atlas across Europe. The Manx and Atlas GT are next in line while the Atlas and Atlas GT use a 585 cc parallel-twin engine and different chassis configurations for their respective road and mixed-surface roles. TVS Motor acquired Norton in 2020 and more than £200 million has since gone into the company, its Solihull operations and its international expansion.

Norton now operates across 10 markets through more than 50 retailers while sales in India and the United States are scheduled to begin in the coming months. The company still targets around 20,000 motorcycles per year globally as the 450 Urban prepares to open another displacement class for the British brand.
