Diwali Crackdown: UP Authorities Launch Massive Raids Against Food Adulteration

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have intensified their crackdown on food adulteration ahead of Diwali, conducting raids across several districts to prevent unsafe sweets and dairy products from reaching consumers. In Hapur’s Dhaulana area, food safety officials seized around 1,600 kg of suspected adulterated khoya, estimated to be worth ₹3.2 lakh, from a factory in Lalpur village. The stock was destroyed and samples were sent for laboratory testing. In Kanpur, officials intercepted two pickup vans carrying more than 2,200 kg of suspected adulterated khoya from Firozabad and Etawah. The consignment was reportedly intended for local markets and was destroyed after samples were collected. In Amroha’s Gajraula, a raid at a paneer factory led to the seizure and destruction of approximately 199 kg of suspected adulterated paneer and 1,250 litres of poor-quality milk. In Muzaffarnagar, around 220 kg of suspected adulterated rasgullas were seized after flies and mosquitoes were reportedly found in the syrup. In Rampur’s Shahabad, officials uncovered an alleged fake milk and khoya operation operating behind a mango orchard, seized 350 litres of adulterated milk and arrested three people. Separately, police in Diamond Harbour, West Bengal, reportedly recovered over ₹1 crore in cash from a TMC office and are investigating its source and ownership.
