Watch: Asaduddin Owaisi calls himself ‘Biwi Paglu’ amid BJP-Rahul row

Hyderabad: If the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is handing out “Paglu” titles, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi would like his to be “Biwi Paglu.” The AIMIM chief used the tag to poke fun at the row over Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking to the media, he said, “I am ‘Biwi Paglu’. I have a wife and children. If you want to lead a peaceful life, trust my words,” he said.

The remark was a humorous response to the BJP’s description of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as an “Anti-India Paglu.”

Asaduddin Owaisi’s earlier remarks in Uttar Pradesh

This is not the first time Asaduddin Owaisi has labelled himself biwi paglu. The word traces back to a speech Owaisi delivered at a rally in Uttar Pradesh in October. He later shared a clip of it on Instagram, in which he is seen targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav.

The clip went viral on social media. The BJP then borrowed the term “Paglu” to attack Rahul Gandhi, calling him “Anti-India Paglu.”

AIMIM prepares for 2027 UP Assembly elections

Meanwhile, Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM is preparing to contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

The BJP is currently in power in the state. The party is expected to face a challenge from the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance in the upcoming polls.

It is not yet clear how many seats AIMIM is going to contest in the state Assembly elections.
