He Quit His Job to Restore 18 Lakes Across Karnataka

Bengaluru has a strange paradox: a city that floods every monsoon still struggles with water shortages. Watching its lakes disappear beneath concrete and waste, Harsha Tej decided to do something about it. He quit his job, picked up a shovel and began restoring the water bodies that once gave the city life.
Through the BlueDot Foundation, Harsha has helped restore 18 lakes across Karnataka and plant more than 1.5 lakh native trees. From clearing invasive growth to rebuilding habitats, his work goes beyond beautifying lakes. Healthy lakes can support wildlife, help recharge groundwater and improve the landscape’s ability to manage rainwater.

For Harsha, every restored lake brings Bengaluru a step closer to the city he remembers, where nature and urban life coexist. His journey shows how one person’s determination can inspire meaningful environmental change, one lake at a time.

Can restoring our lakes help build a more water-secure Bengaluru?
