Bangladesh Unrest: Garment Workers’ Wage Protest Turns Violent In Dhaka

Violent protests erupted in Bangladesh as garment factory workers demanded a significant increase in their wages. Demonstrations in Dhaka and nearby industrial areas turned tense, leading to clashes between protesters and police. According to the report, demonstrators pelted police with stones and set fires on roads, while police fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. The workers are demanding that their monthly minimum wage be increased from 12,500 taka to 30,000 taka. The government, meanwhile, has stated that a new wage board has been formed to determine the revised pay structure and that workers will receive salaries under the new wage scale before January. In a separate incident, alarming CCTV footage emerged from a workshop in Vietnam, showing a tyre exploding while air was being filled into it. The blast reportedly occurred because of excessive air pressure, sending the heavy tyre flying across the workshop. It landed close to a person sitting nearby, who narrowly escaped being hit. The footage also shows the worker inflating the tyre being thrown off balance by the explosion. The incident highlights the serious safety risks associated with excessive tyre pressure and improper handling during inflation.
